Carbon Conservation Week

Posted on 05/01/2018
This is the image for the news article titled Carbon Conservation Week: Earlier this school year, the sixth grade STEM students completed their Environmental Justice PBL in reading where they examined their impact on local, environmental issues and if they could be a part of the problem solving process. In reaction to that, several groups of students studied our community’s carbon footprint in the Denver Metropolitan area. “What can we do?” they asked. First, they discussed what they could do on a small scale and what could easily be implemented here at Deer Creek Middle School. A real, true life application of problem-based learning is happening the week of May 14-17. Student Council helped to organize Carbon Conservation Week in which Deer Creek Middle School students are encouraged to walk to school, bike to school, ride a bus to school, or carpool with other Deer Creek families. Use the recording sheet, available below, to show what day and activity the student participated in. This will promote more environmentally friendly ways to get to and from DCMS lessening our carbon footprint. On May 18, StuCo is raffling off prizes provided by our PTA to five lucky winners who have participated in the week by walking, biking, riding the bus, or carpooling! We appreciate the students' efforts, and we look forward to seeing this problem solving process in action!
